There is an included simple application called GPS Info that allows you to test you GPS and read your longitude and latitude. You will need to install a provided driver that converts the USB connection to a 'virtual' COM port that your software can find. Pros: This is a nice GPS sensor that's meant to work with COM port enabled mapping or navigation software. Overall Review: Works great & the price + shipping at Newegg is best I could find. I'll probably bond something to the magnet side to prevent it from being attracted to electronic components. Not sure about the usefulness of the magnet mounting system since most cars are mostly plastic inside. I won't get the DSA again.Ĭons: Worked absolutely perfectly out of the box. The DSA seemed to always have me driving thru fields or on RR tracks, etc vs on the actual street - not sure where the problem is. If you are looking for mapping software, MS Steets & Trips seems to be be vastly superior to the Delorme Steet Atlas both as a stand alone & GPS product. The unit showed my house to be one steet off from its actual location in both mapping programs, but all other intersections were right on. Must manually select the com port in the software setup - no real big deal. Road tested it quickly w/ MS Streets & Trips 2006, also w/ DeLorme Street Atlas 2006. Plugged it into my laptop & already had the Prolific driver installed from another serial-to-usb adapter. Pros: Received the unit this afternoon - right on schedule - thanks Newegg. ![]() Since power and data are transferred through the same USB cable from the BU-353, there's no need for batteries or any other external power source.Īdditional Information Date First Available With a 60" cable, placement of the GPS receiver anywhere within the vehicle will usually get sufficient GPS signal reception, but in those rare occurrences when towering high-rises offer challenging satellite reception, simply place the BU-353 on the vehicle's roof (attaches with its built-in magnet) for improved reception.
